MAINTENANCE: Maintenance Man

Oscar was born in Malawi and after finishing school there he became involved with the public and environmental health department working for the Government.  He worked here for 10 years before realising that he had more to learn.  He decided that he would leave his family and move to South Africa to learn more.

After arriving in Cape Town he found a gardening position with a family in Noordhoek.  From there he was offered a job as the gardener and handyman at Nutwood Forest and soon after, in 2010, took up the position as the maintenance man at The Children’s Workshop.

He is really enjoying learning lots of new skills especially in carpentry and plumbing and general maintenance.  He feels very happy to be in the Montessori community and loves having the children around asking him to fix things.  The children all greet Oscar heartily when they enter school in the morning.

"I still have more to learn – I have a passion to learn more skills”.
